    surf hiStory...anyone know about>>>

surfing since...well, we'll not mention how long that is...but...curious if anyone ever heard of some psuedo legendary surf cat named dave michaels...doubt that was his real name, apparently he supposedly did some government work...all i know about that...

the things is, i heard of him in reference to a watch company, i guess that's what you'd call it, that he started in the late 50s, '59, '58? took swiss, soviet, military watches and redid the cases to hold up better in the surf...surfed mostly l.a. county...

i talked to a few people who knew snips about this, and want to track it down. i love surfing and surf history. this 'company' was local...sold, and gave, his stuff to local surfers, friends...cases he experimented with using defense and nasa tek stuff, as that was his real job, in those worlds...

i've never seen one of these watches, but one person talking about this brought it up because the company was going to start up, this time as more a real company. the guy, dave michaels, is long gone. i guess someone or some people were keeping the rights to the biz...

curious if this makes sense to anyone? piece of surf history that may or may not be apocryphal...true or not, as they say in lalaland, it's all good (i suppose)

and while on the subject of going back in time, has anyone heard of liddle boards? i surfed malibu quite a lot back in the early 70s and remember a fun, neutral shape that some surfers used to really cut up the waves, especially at 2nd point...i think the company was this guy greg liddle, a valley surfer who shaped these amazing boards...i shaped a few boards in my day and patterned the second one i ever shaped on a liddle shape...about 7'2", roundy rails, nice neutral shape, not fat thick but meaty enough...it ripped, especially on big waves that would hang like taking off on a 5-9ft day at secos in front of the rock...

anyway, be curious if anyone remembers anything about any of this stuff...or maybe it's 1969, i just dropped acid and i only think it's 2008 and i'm wondering about the past that is really the now and......never mind
